Yoga!

I started practicing yoga the same time I got into the gym. After every yoga session I feel so refreshed, elongated, lean and centered. 

In the film, Emily Siy who is a licensed Acupuncturist at Olo Acupuncture and a licensed Yoga instructor who teaches at Five Points Academy. Which is where we met 3 years ago. I knew she would be the perfect person to call on, and she showed up and showed out. 

Brent who is my partner in the film; Brent and I was suppose to do to yoga maybe two or three years ago, but life happened. So when I thought about doing this video, I extended an invite because we never practiced together like we agreed to do. 

Before we started filming, Emily asked what type of yoga I would like for us practice and what part of the body would I like to focus on?

Not thinking, I replied "give me what you got!", then later learned that, that is not how things are set up when it comes up to yoga (that's truly my response to everything lol). But I soon told her that I would like to focus on the lower back area, because I was very tight back there, so we decided that Vinyasawas the way to go 

Vinyasa is an active and athletic style of yoga adapted from the traditional ashtanga system in the late 1980s to appeal to aerobic-crazed Westerners. After having studied with Pattabhi Jois, Beryl Bender Birch and Bryan Kest simultaneously pioneered this westernized ashtanga on the East and West coasts, respectively. Power yoga doesn’t stick to the same sequence of poses each time like ashtanga does, so the style varies depending on the teacher. Classes called “vinyasa” or “flow” in your gym or studio can be vastly different but in general stem from this movement and from ashtanga as well.

I was introduced to a studio in Harlem, by someone I was friends with and I normally try to make it to class on every Sunday at 5pm-6pm. To jump start my week, I like to prepare my mind and body with a great class of yoga. Then later, once I get home and have a shower. I will sit in stillness (meditate) for about 30 minutes to an hour and collect myself; the best remedy ever!

Life is so fulfilling after practicing meditation. This is a topic that I will like to touch on, in a different post, at a later date.
